Objective: to raise awareness about real world environmental issues through virtual events and products

Ideas needing realization:
• Survey avatars – need avatars to solicit around other SL locations asking avatars about environmental issues (similar to Greenpeace campaigning) need survey questions

Programming questions:
How to create smog?

Research needed:
• Inside look at amount of energy/electricity used by SL (computers needed, issues of access/privilege)
• major toxins found at toxic waste dumps and their safety hazards / http://www.superfund365.org
• air quality issues
• fuel crisis and fuel substitutes (ethanol, etc) / http://therealcosts.com, http://www.mandiberg.com
• more info on carbon footprint/ ecological back pack
• water pollution, common toxins found in fish, hazards to health

BUILDING

Megan: 3D modeled recycling center/thrift store designed as an oversized dumpster. Avatars will “dumpster-dive” to enter
Steve: safety suits
Dave: CO2 scrubber that purifies air (similar to an Ionic Breeze)
Ashley: eco-vehicle for touring around other locations to promote event, t-shirts
Angel: green eco-suits and shop for selling/dispensing them
Jason: kiosk and distribution of green eco-suits
Katrina: recycled garden
Mili:
Jake: maze either above ground or underground that simulates a sewage system
Scott: Welcome/info kiosk that explains the different objects, products

SCRIPTING

Brian: script access boundaries and build 3D fence to create a toxic waste pile of discarded objects
Bingxia: script that tells how much electricity or energy used by avatar based on avatar birth date and script that changes daily for “Welcome” sign

ECO RESEARCH

Mike: research facts about Second Life and environmental issues/PR & advertising
Russ: research environmental issues as they relate to events and objects built /PR & advertising

ADVERTISING

Ann: name of place or event, logo design, signage, and other necessary branding elements/ Survey questions and correlating signage, sandwich boards
Mike: assist w/scout locating for promoting event
Russ: help promote event/research other projects, locations, events that are also focused on sustainability issues

    I am designing a “bubble boy” like suit that people can wear to protect themselves from the environment. It will come with gloves to interact with the external environment.

    I am designing a sewer maze in the sky where the players have to search it for 7 different recyclable items and bring them to the finish line. Watch out for the rats!
